| What is simplex? |
| |
Simplex fabric is any fabric produced on a simplex machine. A simplex machine is a type of warp knitting machine characterized by not one (as in a tricot machine) but two horizontal rows (needle bars). Simplex machines are capable of advanced patterning but are mostly known for producing a solid fabric out of continuous filament nylon or polyester yarn. Fabrics produced on the simplex machine have a consistent width stretch and recovery which makes them ideal for intimate apparel, gloves and swimwear (particularly competition swimwear). The fabrics thus produced are of excellent drape and have a slinky feel. They are wrinkle resistant, non curling, run resistant and are highly washable and unlike spandex fabrics, can tolerate exposure to pool chlorine. The polyester versions of simplex are inherently flame retardant. The most common width range of simplex fabrics is 48-62 inches with 54" being the most common width.
